the story behind overdrive

it fascinates me how we're drawn to other
that animal attraction

the scent of each other's short-comings
in passing ... that familiar return

injecting our heritage
yet again

calling it home
for a year

it was in a thought about ecstasy 

and what that might look like

that inspired me to go here

to capture a short glimpse of my youth
getting close but no cigar

fading faces - in the lights
eyes wide open at 4am

mothers & daughters - fathers and sons
having been separated
a return through the lights

spearmint lake - it was there


that I sat under the aurora in aug/92 - no roads to this place
northern ontario, out in the bush, open lake/high up
and this is what came of it
a reminder

like coming home 
to an old friend

attracted to her in that moment
