the story behind 1972
let's rangle, in the jingle jangle
I was 16 when this picture was taken of me
with my first electric guitar - a Harmony 6 string.
Mom paid $25 cash for it from her friend Jim Brady
in Innerkip Ontario, who played in a local band
and just bought a new Telecaster.
It was junk. Warped neck.
The action was so high I could barely play it
but the bottom 3 frets? Oh ya.
I was THE shit!
The girls, it was always about the girls.
Repression Depression.
I just wanted to be
a big deal.
No wait - you don't get it.
After 6 straight years of living in serious isolation,
survivor of a brutal parental break up/shit-show?
In kid years dude - hanging on.
Further away from him & back to her?
Liberation.
I was fucking GOD!
at least in my mind
In 1972 something happened
It didn't affect just me but everyone.
Everything changed.
It was just before disco kicked in
and music was this jingle jangling
suggestion, that extreme fun
was just around the corner.
Puberty was a blast
(excuse the pun)
Sex & Fame
was an intoxicating prospect for this 16 year old,
finally getting quiet permission to let his hair grow
over his big ears.
I later played in touring bands
Ya dude - it's all true.
Right
Candles? Thank you. Baked?
Your groovy movie.
So do me a solid ... under decent headphones
Relax, crank this shit dude and welcome back to
1972
